Life Coaching Corner: Stress-Free Self-Care: Tips for Surviving the Holiday Season

Self-care is not selfish!

Learning to take better care of yourself is one of the best gifts that you can give yourself.

Overindulgence and Overextending yourself during the holidays can lead to a host of problems, such as decreased immunity and bouts of depression, anxiety, and irritability.

Self-care during the holidays is especially important if you deal with grief, loss of any type, or illness.

Self-care is scheduling time to take care of your spiritual, mental, and physical health. If you don’t schedule self-care, it probably will not happen. The busyness and pressures of the holidays will fill your schedule.

Be released from the pressures and expectations that the holidays can bring. You do your best and give yourself grace that you cannot do everything.

Don’t compare yourself to what others may be doing. Just because others are hustling and bustling does not mean that it’s healthy for them, or you! Most of the time people do what others are doing, not taking into account what is best for them.

Slow down…Breathe…And go ahead and watch that Hallmark movie!

You can learn to say, “No, I can’t be there or I am not able to do this,” without feeling guilty.

If you have a hard time during the holidays, you are not alone! The holidays can often have us reminiscing on the past or our losses. Don’t dwell in this place. Have your time you reflect on what you may be missing or lacking, and then do something that will bring a smile to your face.
